Welcome

The Roman Festival Foundation has as its stated goal to allow a broad audience to learn of and appreciate life in the Roman era, a period closely connected to the history of the Netherlands. The Foundation aims to achieve this goal through the organisation of Roman festivals and related public events. At the core of these events are international re-enactment groups, which portray aspects of Roman life – civilian life, trade, the military and religion. The Foundation also reaches out to other people, organisations and cultural institutions aiming to create and promote living history.

The next Roman Festival Foundation will organise a Roman festival on the weekend of June 19th and 20th 2010 on the Kops Plateau area of Nijmegen. The Festival coincides with the opening weekend of the Luxury and Decadence exhibition at Museum het Valkhof. Because of its unique Roman history, the Kops Plateau is a perfect location to evoke Roman history for modern eyes, ears and fingertips.
